2003-2004 Contest

The 2003-2004 contest task was to apply shaving cream, shave (using a dull-edged device, and rinse a balloon. The contest was held on Friday, December 5, 2003 at the Carnegie Science Center�s UPMC SportsWorks complex. Steel Valley High School received fifth place, Conemaugh Township Area High School received fourth place, Greater Latrobe Senior High School received third place, Greensburg Salem High School received second place and Hampton High School received first place.

Many special awards were given out, with the winners receiving a tour of the sponsor�s facility. The People�s Choice award, sponsored by Kennywood, went to Hampton High School. Best Aerosol Application, sponsored by Carpenter Powder Products Inc., went to North Hills Senior High School. Steel Valley High School went home with the �Best Use of Gravity� award sponsored by Westinghouse Electric Company. Most Creative Theme, sponsored by Sony Technology Center � Pittsburgh, went to Belle Vernon Area High School, and the United States Steel, Mon Valley Works sponsored Most Innovative Use of Metals award went to Leechburg Area High School. Best Design and Construction was awarded to Berlin Brothersvalley High School and was sponsored by UPMC SportsWorks. Springdale High School received the Best Use of Ceramics award, sponsored by Redland Brick Inc. - Harmar Plant. The PRIME Coalition sponsored two awards with Cornell High School receiving the Creativity and Innovation award and the Prime Excellence award went to Conemaugh Township Area High School. The final special award given last year was Most Mechanical, sponsored by the Robotics Institute, School of Computer Science, Carnegie Mellon University. This award went to Greensburg Salem High School.

Congratulations to all the schools that participated in last year�s event and thank you for making the event such a success. A special thank you goes out to all the sponsors as well.
