2004-2005 Contest

The 2004-2005 contest task was to fold a letter, put it in an envelope and seal the envelope. The contest was held on Friday, December 3, 2004 at the Carnegie Science Center�s UPMC SportsWorks complex. Riverside High School received fifth place, Belle Vernon Area High School received fourth place, North Allegheny Intermediate High School received third place, Riverview Junior Senior High School received second place and Rocky Grove High School received first place.

Many special awards were given out, with the winners receiving a tour of the sponsor�s facility. The People�s Choice award, sponsored by Kennywood, went to Rocky Grove High School. Best Use of Mechanics, sponsored by Carpenter Powder Products Inc., went to Avonworth High School. North Allegheny Intermediate High School went home with the �Best Use of Gravity� award sponsored by Westinghouse Electric Company. Most Creative Theme, sponsored by Sony Technology Center � Pittsburgh, went to Belle Vernon Area High School, and the United States Steel, Mon Valley Works sponsored Most Innovative Use of Metals award went to Fort Cherry Junior Senior High School. Best Design and Construction was awarded to Greater Latrobe Senior High School and was sponsored by UPMC SportsWorks. Beaver/Lawrence Area Homeschoolers received the Best Use of Materials award, sponsored by Redland Brick Inc. - Harmar Plant. The Carnegie Science Center sponsored the Best Creativity and Innovation award went to Deer Lakes High School. The final special award given last year was Most Mechanical, sponsored by the Robotics Institute, School of Computer Science, Carnegie Mellon University. This award went to Riverview Junior Senior High School.

Congratulations to all the schools that participated in last year�s event and thank you for making the event such a success. A special thank you goes out to all the sponsors as well.
