2012-2013 Contest

The 2012-2013 contest task was to fill a container and close it. The contest was held on Friday, December 7, 2012 at the Carnegie Science Center. Port Allegany School District received the eighth place, Penn-Trafford High School finished in seventh place, Moon Area Senior High School garnered sixth place, Carlynton Jr/Sr High School finished in fifth place, North Allegheny Senior High School received fourth place, Greater Latrobe Senior High School received third place, Hempfield Area High School finished in second place, and congratulations to our first place team, Seneca Valley Intermediate High School!

In addition to the finalist awards, many special awards were given out, with the winners receiving a tour of the award sponsor's facility. The Best Execution of a Theme award, sponsored by Kennywood, went to Carlynton Jr/Sr High School. Best Use of Gravity, sponsored by Westinghouse Electric Company, went to North Allegheny Intermediate High School. The What Will You Create? award, sponsored by Davison, went to Greater Latrobe Senior High School. The Best Presentation award, sponsored by Carpenter Powder Products, was given to North Allegheny Senior High School. The Rookie of the Year award went to Montour High School and was sponsored by Carnegie Science Center. The Most Mechanical machine was from Brentwood Borough School District, and the award was sponsored by the Robotics Institute School of Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University. Hempfield Area High School was awarded Best Transportation System, sponsored by Bombardier Transportation. Yough High School received the Most Efficient Reset award, presented by Bayer HealthCare. The Most Green award, sponsored by ALCOSAN, was presented to Mars Area High School. The Carnegie Science Center sponsored the Longest Successfully Executed Contraption award, which went to Seneca Valley Intermediate High School.

Congratulations to all of the schools that participated in the 2012-2013 contest and thanks to all of the volunteers and participants who made the event such a success.
